Another martial art I got myself into is Kickboxing. Omg, but I kinda like it I must say. The reason behind is that I was making a self test and research about strong glutes and mobil hip. Why? Because my hip range of motion decreased 2 years ago when my coccyxs pulled inwards. After that day my constant pain runs from the glutes all the way to the ankle. That means I had to drop my favorite human movement which if you know me you know it is the deadlift.
So I signed in with Darko Banovic at the Gym 23 for a Saturday morning kickboxing class. ย The class is divided in cardio and stretching for warm up, boxing technique as a group and in pairs, implementation of the kick.
The warm up consists in running cycles with shoulder mobility ย ending it with hipย mobility drill like kneeing lunges, head to knee (Janu Sirsasana), the horizontal squat stretch (the frog pose), side split and so on.
THE PUNCHINGย TECHNIQUE
This is the time to practice the boxing basic moves. The jab, the right cross and the shadow boxing were the main skills learned and practiced. Funny thing I am left handed and I did the whole class with the right arm. I found out I could use both arms for punching. I am not yet sure if I can do the kicking as well since you know already what. “The yet unforgivable issue with the gluteus, iliopsoas and Co…”

THE KICKING TECHNIQUE
This time the side kick was the one learned and practiced. To this pointed I wanted to arrive. I wanted to check out how to train my side and front kick for a better performance in my main new sport love: Capoeira.

REASONS WHY YOU WANT TO GET YOUR SELF INTO KICKBOXING:
1.- It burns your stored fat
2.- You learn to defend yourself
3.- You work on your whole body
4.- You practice balance and coordination
5.- You build whole body strength with the punches and kicks
Thank you to Gym 23, Darko Banovic and the guys from the class that let me record our practice. The photos are taken by Wrestling coach Markus Monkey Hass.
So if you still thinking about giving a try to Kickboxing. Do it. We find our passion by trying out exciting experiences. Kickboxing is exciting for those with inside fire, second chakra baby (if you do not know what that means, ask your yoga teacher). I had fun at the class and it went so fast that I was still hooked on it. I wanted to continue a bit more. Until next Saturday.
