Since I started to offer flexibility classes with yoga elements at several fighting clubs around Vienna I noticed the body structure that the fighters have. I was always interested in getting to know their workouts that build the power, endurance and flexibility. The opportunity came when at the beginning of the year I started to develop the #21daysfatlossproject and I wanted to incorporate MMA workout to our weekly project group Meet Up.
I was introduced to our coach Darko Banovic MMA fighter in lightweight thanks to my talented photographer who is as well a Wrestling coach. Our private training took place at Garage Combat Club where I currently offer flexibility classes for males and females. The gym offers also combat sports and fitness.
The training was divided into warm up; boxing, wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu elements, integration and cool down session.
THE WARM UP
We started to warm up the body with circle running, side running, high knees, shoulder circulations and went to the floor for more hips and neck joint preparation.
THE CONDITIONING
We had a conditioning circuit for 10 minutes focused in developing agility, power, strength and coordination.
The circuit is metabolic training where the body fat starts to burn by the energy demand. You loose fat and tone your whole body just by the first part of the whole MMA workout training.
MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
Boxing was the first combat sport we approached. Getting to know the basic movements we quickly learned to move and make feast correctly (yeah I was obsessed in hiding my thumb) Stepping forward, backwards and sideways and punching was what we got to be introduced to.
Wrestling came along. Darko and Markus showed us how to take someone down with double leg takedown.
We moved to Bjj, when we had our opponent on the floor. We learned side control and high mount.
THE COOL DOWN
We did some cooling down à la Fit Yoga Vienna We stretched the groins, the shoulders, the ankles and relaxed the mind. Slowly we came back to our normal breathing.
